Djokovic v Carballes Baena
Novak Djokovic began his bid for an outright record 25th Grand Slam title with a solid, if unspectacular, 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 victory over Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
However, the three-time French Open champion has had a turbulent season so far, failing to reach a final and seeing his world number one ranking come under threat from Italy's Jannik Sinner.
"I felt better compared to the previous weeks. I'm moving in the right direction," Djokovic said following Tuesday's first-round win.
"But it's only the beginning. It's only one match. We have to see how I will progress in the tournament, how my feelings will evolve."

Djokovic v Carballes Baena
The numbers would suggest this will all be fairly straightforward for Novak Djokovic.
The reigning men's champion is aiming to reach the third round at Roland Garros for the 19th consecutive year.
Robaerto Carballes Baena, meanwhile, has reached the third round just once at the French Open, doing so in 2020.
That is the only time the Spaniard has ever reached that stage at a Grand Slam.

Former British player on BBC Radio 5 Sports ExtraI don't know what's been going on over the past few years. It's just been not rowdy, but like a pantomime.
They’re such a knowledgable crowd. They understand the energy and momentum of the matches. They’ll boo their own. They’re not afraid to get involved, but as you say it’s when they overstep the line.
It is an individual sport, people sometimes compare it to football and say that tennis players are just being soft, but it's a little bit different. It's all on you. There are 10,000 people looking at you and you're very singled out out there. It's intimidating.
Mauresmo is taking the right approach. She's saying we are going to start with quite loose guidelines. No alcohol, tighter security and leaving it up to the public and if you overstep the mark you will be out. She doesn’t want to kill the atmosphere.

Tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Sports ExtraDavid Goffin aside, a lot of fuss about nothing. It's become news because the world number one decided to take on the crowd after winning that match on court and Amelie Mauresmo has now responded. In qualifying week, brilliant atmosphere.
What's happened so far, and I could see it was annoying to the players yesterday, [Iga] Swiatek thought she missed a quite important drive volley because someone called out from the crowd and it is annoying but that's just excitement.
That's not people deliberately trying to undermine the professionals out there. Watching in the stands, you're getting so into it and probably don't realise that you're shouting out and screaming.
Remind the crowd every now and again that this is disruptive to the players but I don't really see what the fuss is about. We want as much atmosphere as we can get.

The French Open has stopped fans drinking alcohol in the stands in a bid to end unruly behaviour, says tournament director Amelie Mauresmo.
It comes after Belgium's David Goffin had chewing gum spat at him During a match against France's Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
On Wednesday, women's defending champion Iga Swiatek pleaded with fans to keep quiet during points and not to shout out.
"First of all, we are happy people are very enthusiastic about watching tennis and being part of the matches, showing feeling and emotions," said Mauresmo.
"But there are definitely steps which shouldn't go further. A few things have needed to be put in place."

Aryna Sabalenka underlined her French Open title credentials by completing another commanding straight-set win to reach the third round at Roland Garros.
The world number two took just 62 minutes to dismiss Japan's Moyuka Uchijima 6-2 6-2 under the roof on Court Philippe Chatrier.
That win followed an opening victory over Erika Andreeva, in which she lost just three games.
Sabalenka will now meet former quarter-finalist Paula Badosa, who ended British number one Katie Boulter's tournament, after the Spaniard came back from a set down to beat Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva 4-6 6-1 7-5.
Her potential semi-final opponent, fourth seed Elena Rybakina, recovered from 4-2 behind in the second set to also clinch a straight-set win on Thursday.
Kazakh Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion, defeated Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 6-3 6-4 on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Welcome back!
It's another wet day in Paris and once again the weather has disrupted the schedule on the outside courts.
A few matches were completed before the rain began hammering down earlier today, with men's 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov and Spain's Paula Badosa among those who managed to wrap up victories before play was stopped around the courts on Roland Garros.
But the action continues under the roof on Court Philippe Chatrier and Court Suzanne Lenglen.
On the show courts already today, women's second seed Aryna Sabalenka and fourth seed Elena Rybakina have clinched victories, while men's fifth seed Daniil Medvedev also progressed after Miomir Kecmanovic retired.
